This story is so well known among Muslims and even outside Muslims that many know it so that it becomes an example for everyone, starting from the relationship between Fatimah and Ali and how they teach us about alms.
The story begins when Fatimah is not feeling well. When conditions like that, Fatimah wants pomegranates.
For the sake of his beloved wife, Ali bin Abi Talib went to the market to look for Pomegranate.
Arriving at the market, Ali bought one Pomegranate, considering his money was only enough to buy one fruit.
After buying the fruit, Ali then went home. But on the way, Ali met a beggar.
He hasn't eaten in 5 days and feels very hungry. The beggar then asked for the Pomegranate that Ali had brought.
Ali thought if he gave all the pomegranates, then Fatimah would be disappointed. So, finally, Ali had the idea of dividing the Pomegranate into two parts.
Where one part is for the beggar, and the other half is for Fatima.
When he got home, Ali saw Fatimah was in a better condition. Ali also told his wife that he had met a very hungry beggar.
Ali told Fatimah that he gave the half pomegranate to the beggar.
Not long after, someone heard someone greeting from outside. It turned out to be Salman Al-Farisi.
Salman Al-Farisi brought pomegranates for Ali and Fatimah. Salman brought nine fresh pomegranates.
Ali also said to Salman why he only brought nine pieces. Hearing this, Salman was flabbergasted.
He was surprised by Ali's question. Ali explained that if the fruit were from the Messenger of Allah, the number would be 10, not 9.
Salman also asked Ali how he knew this. Ali also replied that he remembers the word of Allah in Surah Al-An'am verse 160, which reads.
"man ja a bi al-hasanati fa lahu 'asyruamtsaliha" means Whoever brings good deeds, then for him the reward of good deeds is ten times.
That's the story of Ali bin Abi Talib and the Pomegranate. This story teaches us always to give good charity in difficult circumstances.
Because we know God's promise is true. He will repeatedly replace what we give sincerely with rewards or other things.
wallohu'alam.
