As Muslims we undoubtedly know that the Qur'an (القرآن) is a special message of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala based on other books. But have we figured out how the history of the Quran was passed down? It doesn't feel like it if we just read & memorize it without knowing the history of the Quran.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Shalih al-Utsaimin mentioned that the Qur'an is an infinitive noun form (mashdar) according to the word qara'a (قرأ) which means to read or collect.

Meanwhile, from the terminology of the Qur'an, it is a holy book that contains the words or revelations of Allah ta'ala which was passed down to the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu alaihi wasallam into miracles through the intermediary of the angel Gabriel. The Qur'an consists of 114 letters & divided as 30 parts or called juz. The number of all verses is 6,666 pieces.

Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala sent down the Qur'an as a miracle that foreshadowed the apostleship of the Prophet Muhammad, & the existence of Allah Almighty with all the qualities of His perfection.

Reading the Qur'an and living & practicing it is one worship. It is a book of the biological guide of people > the main certificate of Muslims besides the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah.History of the Period of the Descent of the Quran

The Qur'an was handed down through the mediator of the angel Gabriel who revealed himself to the Messenger of Allah SAW.

Some scholars divide the period of the descent of the Qur'an into 2 periods. The Period of Mecca before the hijra, the letters that descended at this time were claimed (makkiyyah verses) which lasted for 12 years of the prophetic period of the Prophet Muhammad SAW with a total of 86 letters.

Then, the Medina period which began from the hijra event to the end of the Hijra. The epistles that came down at this time were called (madaniyyah verses), lasted for 10 years using the number of 28 letters.

At the beginning of the first revelation is surah Al-Alaq verses 1-5 located in the Cave of Hira when the Prophet Muhammad SAW was aloof to coincide with the 17th of Ramadan and before the Prophet hijra approximately 610 AD in the release of August 6.

At that time, Prophet Muhammad SAW had not been appointed as an Apostle, only acting as an ordinary Prophet who had not been assigned to deliver the revelations he received. Until the second revelation came down, the Prophet Muhammad was commanded to deliver the revelation he received, using the word of God which is:

"O whizable (shrouded), get up, and then give a warning."

The last Revelation is surah Al-Maidah verse three which was handed down in Jabal Rahmah at the time of Hajj Wa'da to coincide in the release of 9 Dhulhijjah in 10 A.D. or October 27, 632 A.D.

The history of the bookkeeping of the Quran is divided into three phases, namely in the time of the Messenger of Allah, the time of the caliph Abu Bakr, & the time of Uthman ibn Affan. The three periods have their own developments so that the Quran is easier for Muslims to read and produce.1. At the Time of the Messenger of Allah SAW

With its limitations because it is not able to read & write. When every Prophet saw a revelation, he personally conveyed it to the Companions. The Companions who were appointed to write the Qur'an were Abu Bakr, Umar bin Khatab, Uthman bin Affan, Zaid bin Tsabit, Ali bin Abi Talib, Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan and Ubay bin Kaab.

The writing of the Qur'an is recorded to be simple and scattered in several media such as date palm fronds, stone slabs, elongate leaves, bark or wooden leaves, saddles, pieces of animal bones. In addition, the companions of the Prophet Muhammad SAW immediately memorized the verses of the Qur'an after the revelation was handed down.

The writing of the Qur'an at that time had not been collected as a mushaf, because there was no motivating factor in recording the Qur'an considering that the Prophet Saw was still biological and the Companions also memorized. Another reason is because the Qur'an descends gradually or gradually.2. During the Time of Caliph Abu Bakr

At this time, Hafidz's friend Died Martyred for participating in the war. So based on that, Uthman ibn Affan began to worry and think about the future of the Qur'an. Then a little dialogue with Caliph Abu Bakr for the collection of the Qur'an home.

Finally, he asked Zaid ibn Tsabit (one of the former scribes of the Prophet Muhammad SAW). To collect back & write down the Qur'an in order to be as sheets that can be put together.

After the Qur'an had been as a mushaf neatly arranged, then the mushaf was kept by Abu Bakr until he died. Uthman ibn Affan who became the successor of the mushaf holder until his death, as a result was continued by his son named Hafshah binti Uthman ibn Affan who was also the wife of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.three. In the Time of Uthman ibn Affan

Islam became more widespread, as a result of which it led to differences in the pronunciation of some terms in the Qur'an. Thus, Uthman ibn Affan initiated the standards of the Qur'an or what we usually call it using the Ottoman Mushaf. In this case a committee was formed by Uthman bin Affan, consisting according to Zaid bin Tsabit (chairman), Abdullah bin Zubair, Sa'id bin Ash and Abdur rahman bin Harits bin Hissyam.

The purpose is to record the Qur'an, namely by copying from the sheets containing the verses of the Qur'an into a book. In addition, he homogenized his writing and reading accordingly using the dialect of the quraysh, because it is said that the Qur'an was derived according to the dialect of the tribe.

Because this mushaf was believed to be valid, until finally it was during the time of Uthman ibn Affan that mushaf began to be distributed to several countries. Such as, Mecca, the Levant, Yemen, Bahrain, Bashrah, Kufah, & Medina to other Islamic countries.

From this history, we have become more aware of the origins and processes of the formation of the Qur'an, considering that its content is a clue to humans. Come on, read the Quran using enterprising!
