KAUMMUSLIM.COM - History of the Development of Islam in Indonesia – It is no longer a foreign thing when we understand that Indonesia is a country using a large number of islands. It is undeniable that the number of land areas that misah-misah creates a very plural of cultures and religions.
However, who would have thought that Islam is the most poly adherent. It must be poly who is wondering, right? What was the beginning of Islamic beliefs in Indonesia? So, how come you can get such a large number of followers? Here we review in this article!
The Beginning of the History of the Development of Islam in Indonesia
It is undeniable that the presence of Islam in Indonesia is not without a long beginning & long process. In fact, if we look at the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW in Mecca, the struggle for the spread of Islam is very risky!
So, how do you get to enter Indonesia? The beginning of Islam in Indonesia actually went through a long process. One of the processes is through the traders. But, there are several other theories that say who this belief is brought by.
Based on history, which is not least discussed, Islam is suspected of entering Indonesian territory since its second child. As evidenced by the hijra of merchants from Ceylon in the 7th century, they experienced a relatively rapid development when cooperating with China.
Well! By the way about the beginning of the entry of Islam itself, there are several theories that are not in harmony. Among these are the Gujarat theory , the Mecca theory & the Persian theory. Each of these theories experiences a different story in the development of Islam.
In gujarat theory which is based on India, it is said that Islam was brought by muslim traders. Around the 13th century AD, Islam entered the Indonesian area & gradually spread throughout the archipelago. In addition to the Gujarat theory, there is the theory of Mecca. This theory reveals that the beginning of the entry of Islam into Indonesia was brought by Muslim traders from Arabia.
The time of the incident was approximately the 7th child A.D. Certainly earlier than the Gujarat theory, yes! Well! There is also a Persian theory that reveals other opinions. For this Persian theory itself is reportedly not far in sync with the 2 theories above. Again, the work of the traders is very crucial. However, for Persia the traders were actually aiming at Gujarat.
More precisely, they stopped for a while to rest in the territory of Indonesia. If according to history, traders from Persia came more or less in the 14th century AD. So, it is almost similar to using the Gujarat theory, right? So, the number of theories turns out to be unsustainable always has a good influence. Different leaders differ in thinking as well. Well! Another theory of Marcopolo's findings also supports the existence of Islamic beliefs on an Indonesian island.
More precisely in the Northern part of Sulawesi. It is said that people there are already familiar with the existence of islamic beliefs because they have communicated so often with the Perlak people. In fact, it is so often possible that they know each other.
Unlike the case with the Sumatra region, if the Sulawesi region is said to have Islam entered through the kingdom. Of course, the spreaders are not far away according to Hadramaut. There are also other impacts of inviting the Muslim community also because of the impact of scholars which is very crucial.

History of the Development of Islam in Indonesia By Region
Indonesia is one of the vast regions on the face of the earth. Even if you want to count it with your fingers, the number of islands is very poly. Starting according to Sabang to Merauke. Likewise, using Malacca. Still as part of Indonesia until now, Malacca also has its own story related to for example what Islamic beliefs entered its area.
Still not far away according to the traders for sure. However, the version of the story is different again. However, if reviewed in detail based on its history, it is said that Malacca is one of the places where the primary gateway of Islam in southeast Asia became popular. More precisely it started on the basis of the Malacca peninsula, the religion of Islam as much better known until now .
However, there is another version that also reveals that Islam before entering Malacca touched the Samudra Pasai area, Aceh first. The development of Islam that touched Samudra Pasai was in the end it developed rapidly to Malacca thanks to the kingdom of Perlak.
No wonder there is another theory that says Malacca is the main gateway to the course of Islam in the Southeast Asian region. Because basically trade is very rapid in that area. Including the variety of activities such as buying and selling, the kingdoms around reaped a lot of profits.
As is the case discussed in the book Islam In The Current of Indonesian History From The Land Under the Wind To The Colonial State Edition 2 which discusses the initial process of Islamization which is closely related to sea trade and the formation of kingdoms.
One aspect of the benefits obtained in terms of the economy. But, apparently that's not all. Knowing Islam is precisely the profit side for them in expanding partners, especially in global trade. Recorded in history, it is said that since 1409 AD the Malacca people have begun to convert to Islam.
Meanwhile, if you learn from Samudra Pasai, you are not surprised. Because it is reported that the wife of the king of Malacca himself is also from the royal descendants of Samudra Pasai. Because someone is a descendant of the Kingdom of Samudera Pasai, it is not surprising that after they were married by their wives converted to Islam. Because his wife converted to Islam, all the citizens he led also converted to Islam.
After that, there were poly people started based on trade, sufi teachers, mubaligh, &so on went to Thailand. Well! It was there that they stopped by & went home to share the Islamic faith to be introduced to the Thai people. So, it's no wonder that Malacca is thought to be the primary gateway to the spread of Islam in Southeast Asia! Although in the end the kingdom of Malacca had collapsed, but their descendants in the end spread and brought the influence of Islam to poly people.

History of the Development of Islam in the Northern Part of Sumatra
If you tell about the history of Islam per region, there is no end to it! The northern part of Sumatra is likewise. There is a separate theory of how Islam got into it. One of them is that it began in the 7th century AD.
Reportedly, at that time a Buddhist kingdom was established as a result of which the actual entry of Islam was relatively difficult. But, who would have thought that the path would be different? At that time his Buddhist kingdom was Srivijaya. Srivijaya is under pressure due to aggression based on India.
Then there is no other option to convert to Islam. If this one story has just become the main gateway to the existence of Islam in Indonesia. Well! It is also said that there is an Islamic village there. Both arab and Indian traders who are Muslims are increasingly spreading Islam.
Plus using the discovery of tombstones that read Islam. It must be a sign that Islam has existed since that time in the area as well. Another theory also reveals that islamic beliefs that entered this area actually arrived exclusively according to Arabia & received exclusive envoys according to the Caliph.

History of the Development of Islam in Central and East Java
The presence of Islam in Indonesia in its time was indeed very mushrooming. Even like a virus that is so rapidly transmitted, the possibility of the widespread spread of Islamic beliefs cannot be stopped. Already discussing the area of entry of Islam according to the North, let's turn to the Javanese island.
The Java region which as the spread of Islam without exception there are three provinces in Java. However, what we will discuss this time is about the provinces of East Java & Central Java. Well! For the territory of the entry of Islam in these two provinces, you must be foreign to Walisongo.
Especially in the East Java region, it is said that Islam has existed since the 11th century AD. This is evidenced by the existence of the tomb of Fatimah binti Maimun with the inscription in 1082. Not only that, the tombs of other Muslims in the Majapahit area have also been found.
As we already mentioned above, this region is not separated according to Walisongo. Especially based on the 9 guardians who exist, 5 of them entered &shared Islam in East Java. This also results in why there is a cluster of Islamic cultures and beliefs.
In addition to east Java, Central Java is also one of the areas of rapid spread of Islam. Moreover, using the dense population, Islamic beliefs spread so quickly. Especially about the information that Islam in Central Java originated from the North coast.
The three regions such as Jepara, Kudus and Demak are the main areas of Islamic origin found in Central Java. Because it is still close to using East Java, it is not surprising that Central Java is also an area controlled by Walisongo to become the spread of Islam.
