The Importance of Muslim Global Relief Charity Commission
The Muslim Global Relief Charity Commission (MGRCC) is an international non-profit charitable organization, which aims to help alleviate poverty by providing food, clean drinking water, housing and education to vulnerable people in developing countries around the world. In Arabic, the meaning of MGRCC is to aid or relieve others.
The MGRCC was founded in 2003 and has offices in Germany and the United Kingdom, but it also partners with organizations based in South America, Africa, Asia and Australia.
Their reach covers more than 30 countries across 5 continents and they have gained prominence as one of the largest Muslim humanitarian aid organizations worldwide.
THE ISLAMIC CONCEPT OF IKHLAS IS THE WILLINGNESS TO RECIPROCATE OTHERS' KINDNESS WITH KINDNESS.
This act of kindness is known as Tawakkal, and it is one of the five pillars of Islam.
Most muslims have a strong sense of social justice and will work toward restoring balance in society by advocating for change on religious, political and social levels.
They understand that no one achieves true spiritual enlightenment while mistreating the earth or her inhabitants.
In fact, the Qur'an states, 'He has indeed brought you forth from the womb to live upon the earth, and has provided for you means [of livelihood]; He has also instructed you what is right and what is wrong.' [6:79] All this implies that when faced with a lack of resources, most muslims will reach out in compassion to help others in need.#The global aid effort addresses needs across the entire muslim world.
Rather than limiting its efforts to Africa or Somalia, where famines occur most frequently, the muslim community mobilized efforts to address hunger worldwide.
In 1991, delegates from over seventy nations met at a conference in Istanbul and established an Islamic bank towards aiding impoverished regions around the globe.
They established funding sources (like governments), priorities (health care), delivery methods (local organizations) and oversight mechanisms (the bank).
The resulting initiative is called 'the Istanbul summit fund,' and it is one of the largest collective humanitarian efforts on the planet.
The summit fund annually provides over $5 billion in aid toward addressing global hunger- among other needs like education and agriculture.
This global effort shows how when people come together for a common cause, incredible feats are achieved that would be impossible alone.# In accordance with their belief system, muslims understand that mankind cannot achieve spiritual enlightenment while mistreating or exploiting nature.
When faced with a lack of resources, they will take action toward restoring balance in society through charity or other means.
The global aid effort is one of the largest collective humanitarian efforts on the planet- which shows how when people come together for a common cause, incredible feats are achieved that would be impossible alone.# Each muslim gives Charity to his fellow brethren in need.
Several years ago, a famine struck Somalia, causing millions of people to lose their source of food and income.
During this time, most Somalis were unable to provide for their families due to loss of income.
However, many muslims did not hesitate to sacrifice their excess in order to feed their brothers and sisters during this difficult time.
A Somali woman known as Ayaan Hirsi Magan collected 40 cans of food from all over the world and supplied them to her starving countrymen via her NGO.
She explained that she collected the cans from people who were willing to donate to her countrymen; she then delivered them to her countrymen herself so that no money was lost during the transfer.
Through their charitable acts during this crisis, Somalis showed that they understood the teachings of Ikhlas- they were willing to give back even when they were in need themselves.
